NEW TO PILATES? START HERE
Every woman in our studio was new once, and most of them were nervous too. Here is exactly what happens, so you can walk in knowing what to expect.
BEFORE YOU WORRY
YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS NERVOUS
The thing we hear the most is “I’m not fit enough yet”. You do not need to be fit to start. That is what starting is for.
Our women are every age, every shape, and every ability. Some have not exercised in years. Some never have. Nobody is watching you, because everyone else is concentrating on their own wobbling.
I was the person who said “Pilates? I can’t do that! …people I don’t know, a new hip and I’m nearly 60!” Here I am 6 months later, 3 classes a week. Best decision I’ve made.

As an anxious beginner, walking through those doors was daunting. Claire was so encouraging, everyone welcoming, I felt comfortable straight away. It’s a fun environment. Give it a go, you won’t regret it.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
BOOK A BEGINNER CLASS
Start with a £5 Foundation taster Class. Pick a time that suits you and we’ll take it from there.
1
FIND US & ARRIVE EARLY
We’re a little tucked away, so check our How to Find Us before you leave and aim to arrive 15 minutes early. That gives us time to welcome you and get you settled.
2
WE’LL TALK YOU THROUGH IT
You don’t need to be fit, flexible or know any Pilates. We’ll explain everything throughout the class, and give you easier options to let you work at your own pace.
3
AFTER YOUR CLASS
After class, we’ll have a quick chat, answer any questions and help you find the right next class for you.

✓ Your own mat
✓ Water
✓ Comfy clothes you can move in, with a layer you can take off if you get warm
✓ Socks or bare feet, whichever feels best. Most of us wear socks in winter and go barefoot in summer
WHAT TO BRING
Need to borrow a mat or unsure about anything before your first class? Just message Claire.
WHICH CLASS SHOULD I START WITH?
WHERE TO START
Start with our Pilates Foundation classes. They are for everyone, from absolute beginners taking their first steps into Pilates, to more advanced Dollies wanting to go back to basics and perfect their technique.
There are plenty of Foundation classes across the week, in the studio and live online, so you can find one that fits around everything else.
HONEST ANSWERS
THE QUESTIONS EVERYONE ASKS
-
Yes. Foundation is built for exactly this, and every move has an easier option. Go at your own pace and stop whenever you need to. Nobody will notice, and nobody would mind if they did.
-
Whatever you can move comfortably in and already own, with a layer you can take off if you get warm.
-
No. Your first class is £5 and after that you can pay as you go at £13.50. Most people join a membership eventually, but only when they want to.
-
Every class runs live online too. Keep your camera on and we will coach you just as we would in the room. If you cannot make the time, the recording goes into our online library 24 hours later.
-
Plans change, you are more than welcome to cancel. We just ask that you cancel at least 8 hours before your class so we can offer your mat to someone else. Late cancellations will mean you lose the class, and repeated late cancellations on Unlimited can affect advance booking.
-
Free parking right outside, on site at BSS House. Watch our short video showing the walk from the car park to the studio door here.
STILL NOT SURE?
Message Claire directly and ask anything at all. No sales pitch, we promise.
